September 26 is Mesothelioma Awareness Day!

Mesothelioma Awareness Day (Meso Awareness Day) takes place annually on September 26. It was established in 2004 by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation community members and has been the driving force behind the movement to bring more attention and funding to this cancer. 

As this disease is extremely rare, it is often misdiagnosed and under-researched. In addition, most people who have heard of mesothelioma recognize the name from legal commercials, which portray mesothelioma patients older in age and who have a short life expectancy following their diagnosis. More and more, however, we have seen patients within our community who are younger with higher survival rates. Our goal is to change the understanding of mesothelioma and who it affects in order to encourage more research and an eventual cure for this devastating cancer. 

Below are some actions that we invite you to take in observance of Mesothelioma Awareness Day.

Light the World Blue

Ask the management of a landmark near you to light up in blue on September 26! And if you are near one of these locations, make sure to visit on Sept 26, take a photo, and send it to us at [email protected].

A proclamation is a public announcement made by elected officials at a local, state, or national, level, which is used to recognize a topic of importance to the constituents of those officials. Learn how to request proclamations for your area.

Visit our social media accounts, follow them, like and share our infographics about mesothelioma with your social media networks to help us amplify the message.

Paint the World in Mesothelioma Blue

Take photos of yourself and your family, friends, or colleagues wearing blue. Post them on social media with a tag #curemeso and share them with us! Any blue will do, but if you'd like, you can purchase our blue shirts in our store.


Contact your local media

Identify local media outlets in your area where you'd like to see coverage of Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Let them know about how mesothelioma has affected you and/or ask them to cover your event, proclamation, or buildings lighting blue!
