CAR-T Cell Therapy as Treatment for Mesothelioma Patients

CAR-T (Chimeric antigen receptor) cell therapy is a type of immunotherapy that uses a patient’s T cells to attack cancer cells. T cells are white blood cells that fight infection and illness, but cancer cells can sometimes trick the immune system. CAR T-cell therapy helps the body’s immune system see through this deception by genetically modifying T cells to produce CARs, which are receptors that bind to specific proteins on cancer cells. This allows the T cells to recognize and kill the cancer cells.

This is a treatment option that can be effective for mesothelioma patients. Our Patient Services Director, Julie White, RN, BSN, OCN, sits down with Dr. Laura Johnson, the Chief Scientific Officer at Verismo Therapeutics, and Dr. Daniel Sterman, the Director of Pulmonary Oncology Program at NYU Langone Health to talk more in depth about CAR-T cell therapy treatment for mesothelioma patients.
