Symposium 2022 in Chicago is the organization’s first in-person gathering for mesothelioma patients in 3 years!

symposium

For over 18 years, the International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma has been the go-to place for mesothelioma patients and their families to find community and support while learning about new and upcoming treatment options directly from experts in the field. This year’s conference will be held in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, July 23 (with a cocktail reception on July 22), and will be the first in-person gathering for the Foundation since 2019.

Agenda

Patients and their family members will have the opportunity to learn about mesothelioma treatments, which include standard therapies (chemotherapy and immunotherapy), surgical treatments, radiation therapy, and experimental treatments. Moreover, attendees will learn about new and in-the-works treatments and their basis of activity.

The opportunity to meet face to face with mesothelioma experts from a variety of institutions all in one place is a unique feature of this conference.

Concurrently to this meeting for patients, families, and the bereaved community, the medical attendees will meet in a scientific summit at the same location to discuss the future of mesothelioma treatment in light of new standards of care, and new potential treatments. At the end of the science session, the representatives of the scientific community will present to the patient/caregiver community their discussions and conclusions. The agenda is available on the conference website at www.curemeso.org/symposium.

Socialization

A diagnosis of mesothelioma is an isolating experience so finding community with others who have walked a similar path has been an important pillar of support for patients and their families. This conference will provide attendees with ample socialization time, first with the cocktail reception on July 22, and later during breaks and meals on July 23.

Support Groups

In-person attendees will be provided the opportunity to participate in professionally-moderated support groups specific to patients, caregivers, and those who have lost a loved one to mesothelioma.

Celebration of Life and Loss Sessions

For members of our bereaved community, the conference offers support sessions, social sessions, and a Celebration of Life tribute ceremony to remember their loved ones.

Covid-19 Considerations

Mesothelioma patients continue to be at high risk for complications from a Covid infection. For this reason, conference attendees are required to follow these steps:

  • Provide proof of vaccination
  • Wear N95 masks while indoors (masks will be provided)
  • Test themselves prior to attendance
  • Watch the conference via livestream if experiencing any symptoms

In addition, the organization has secured a larger space than needed for an event this size in order to provide attendees with added distancing between attendees.
