Meso Foundation announces Julie Powers as new Executive Director

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, we are excited to introduce you to the organization’s new Executive Director, Ms. Julie Powers!

Julie comes to us with extensive nonprofit leadership experience and over 25 years in the nonprofit sector, most recently as Senior Director, Patient Advocacy with the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. She is an alumna of Alma College (Michigan) and is an active community volunteer, serving as an appointed Commissioner in Montgomery County, Maryland where she lives with her rescue dog, Maggie. She looks forward to leading the organization and is passionate about supporting patients, family members, and caregivers throughout their journey.

As we announced last month, our long-time Executive Director and Nurse Practitioner, Mary Hesdorffer, who returned to the Foundation in 2018 after a very brief retirement, has decided to truly retire this time. As many of you know, Mary wore two hats at the organization – while she is no longer Executive Director, she will continue to provide patient services while we conduct a national search for a Patient Services Director.

In the meantime, please join us in welcoming Julie! You can find her on Facebook at Julie A Powers, or send her an email at [email protected] or call her at (703) 879-3819.
