mesothelioma support group

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation has added a new monthly mesothelioma support group call for those who are under 55 and have lost a spouse to mesothelioma.

Claudine Benmar and Gwen Dew, RN, will host the monthly Young Widows and Widowers Support Group call on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM ET. The next call is Thursday, January 21.

This support group call was created to address issues and topics such as:

  • Dating: When is right time? Are you open to the idea of dating?
  • Children: How do you help your child(ren) cope? What challenges do you encounter as a widow/widower with children that are not grown?
  • Work/Career: How does this loss affect your work? Do you return to work if you hadn’t been previously working outside the home? Do you seek a career change?
  • Social Media: How do you feel about social media as an outlet for grief?
  • Stress: How do you handle stress while grieving?

About the Support Group Call Hosts:

Claudine Benmar lost her beloved husband, Pete, to peritoneal mesothelioma in January 2019. She lives in Seattle, Washington with her two daughters, ages 21 and 17. Claudine works in marketing and communications for higher education.

Gwen Dew’s husband, Jason, passed away from peritoneal mesothelioma in November 2017 following a 3.5-year battle. She is a nurse living in Mississippi with her three children, ages 21, 8, and 7. Gwen enjoys family, friends, cooking, and anything outdoors.
