Due to the pandemic, the 10th annual Kayaking 4 Meso is virtual and free to register (by Sept. 1). This annual Fundraise for Meso event, organized by Mark Wells, normally involves participants kayaking through the “Flight of Locks” on the Erie Canal and up the Hudson River to Halfmoon Lighthouse Park in Waterford, NY. This year’s event is in memory of Cris Moldow and Bob Brittingham – two mesothelioma warriors we lost over the last year.
How to virtually participate:
- Register online by Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020
- Paddle at your leisure anywhere and anytime until Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020
- Upload your miles every time you paddle
- The goal is to collectively paddle 2,500 miles
- Post your paddling pictures on the Kayaking 4 Meso Facebook page
Raffle tickets for a brand-new kayak or a 50/50 are also available. The raffles will be drawn Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park. If you are in the area and want to join, all are welcome.
In late July, Steve Clark, a mesothelioma warrior from North Carolina, and 13 of his friends and family – the youngest just 3 years old – paddled 11 miles on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The group, which calls itself “the adventurers,” participated in the in-person 2019 Kayaking 4 Meso event and was eager to support the virtual 2020 event. Following their paddling, the adventurers enjoyed a barbeque and collectively raised $1,100!
