Charles Hesdorffer, MD discussed the immune system and its response to viral infections such as COVID-19, especially as it relates to mesothelioma patients.

Dr. Hesdorffer is a hematologist and a retired professor of medicine at the George Washington Medical Center as well as the Armed Forces College of Medicine. In retirement, he has joined the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at the NIH in Bethesda, MD. With over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals, Dr. Hesdorffer has established himself as a leader in many areas of clinical research in both hematology and oncology — with a specific expertise in relation to the role that inflammation plays in the development of cancer and in the biology of aging.
