Since 2004, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation and its community members have obtained “Mesothelioma Awareness Day” proclamations for September 26 from both their local and state-level governments as well as the United States Senate and the House of Representatives.
With Mesothelioma Awareness Day 2019 one month away, now’s the time to work on a proclamation in your state or locality. States with a permanent proclamation include Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Localities where a proclamation has been received previously can be found on our website. Please note that you can still request a 2019 proclamation from these localities.
To get you started, we developed a how-to list with Bonnie Anderson, a mesothelioma warrior and advocate:
- Download the sample proclamation text from our website.
- Make an appointment to meet with your local and state government representatives.
- Find your local representatives.
- Tell your mesothelioma connection and the importance of Mesothelioma Awareness Day.
- Feel free to use this letter as a guide for your meeting.
- Bring the Proclamation Text with you.
Tips from Bonnie:
- Get to know the office staff and send a thank you note.
- Send posters and letters to the offices of every representative of your state and locality.
