R. Taylor Ripley, MD, and Jason M. Foster, MD join nonprofit Board of Directors

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) is pleased to announce that R. Taylor Ripley, MD and Jason M. Foster, MD have joined the organization’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Ripley is an associate professor of surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and director of the Mesothelioma Treatment Center in Houston, TX, and Dr. Foster is a surgical oncologist and associate professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Both will serve a three-year term.

Dr. Ripley is a nationally recognized expert in thoracic surgical oncology who specializes in the treatment of pleural mesothelioma. This focus on mesothelioma and thoracic oncology extends back more than a decade from his studies as a thoracic oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where he was also an associate professor of surgery in the Thoracic and Oncologic Surgery Branch.

Prior to the NCI, Dr. Ripley trained extensively in the care of mesothelioma patients under world-renowned surgeons during his fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He has lectured nationally and published extensively on his work in the field of thoracic oncology and tumor metabolism. Dr. Ripley received his BS from Boston College and his MD from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Foster is one of few U.S. surgical oncologists practicing HIPEC, or hot chemotherapy, to treat peritoneal mesothelioma patients. He trained in general surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Following his residency, he completed surgical oncology training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.

In 2005, Dr. Foster joined the staff at Creighton University in the Surgical Oncology Division. Since 2010, he has held his current position at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Foster received his BS from Bucknell University and his MD from Temple University.

“Dr. Ripley and Dr. Foster are experts in the field of pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma, respectively, and therefore are outstanding additions to our board,” said Marjorie G. Zauderer, MD, chair of the Board of Directors. “Their expertise and guidance will be invaluable as the Meso Foundation continues its work to improve and expand treatment options for mesothelioma patients.”

Both Dr. Ripley and Dr. Foster will be speaking at the 2019 International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma in Bethesda, MD on March 25-27, 2019.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to eradicate mesothelioma and end this national tragedy. Its programs include the funding of promising and peer-reviewed research, education, support and advocacy. The organization strives to bring together thought-leaders in the field to identify the most direct path to a cure.
