Through partial funding by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has published updated patient resources for malignant pleural mesothelioma. The resources include the NCCN Guidelines for Patients and NCCN Quick Guide sheet.
The NCCN Guidelines for Patients is based on the guidelines used globally in clinical practice to allow health care professionals to determine the best treatment options for patients with cancer. This newly published version is patient-friendly and easy to understand.
As stated by the NCCN, “Each resource features unbiased expert guidance from the nation’s leading cancer centers designed to help people living with cancer talk with their physicians about the best treatment options for their disease.”
The NCCN Quick Guide sheet is a summary of key points from the patient guidelines, as well as helpful information for patients, such as a list of questions to ask your doctor, a glossary of terms, medical illustrations, tests, and treatments.
These updated resources will allow pleural mesothelioma patients to gain a better understanding of their disease and treatment options in terms that they can understand. Patients will be better equipped to have meaningful discussions with their health care providers.
The NCCN Guidelines for Patients and NCCN Quick Guide for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma can be downloaded free of charge from nccn.org/patients.
