Fundraising February: How to Start Planning Your 2016 Mesothelioma Fundraiser

This month, we are sharing all of the information you need to become a mesothelioma fundraiser. February is a perfect month to start brainstorming about your event for 2016, and that’s why we’re beginning this four-part series to help you get started.

Have you ever thought about hosting your very own event to raise awareness and funds for the Meso Foundation?  Did you know that volunteers just like you raised more than $240,000 to benefit the Meso Foundation in 2015? Those funds had a dramatic impact on patient services, research, advocacy, prevention and the fight against mesothelioma.

2016 is the year to add your name to our list of successful fundraisers!  Whether you are planning for a spring event or preparing for an event around Meso Awareness Day in September, this month is a perfect time to start brainstorming about hosting your fundraising event.

At the Meso Foundation, anyone can support those affected by mesothelioma by becoming a fundraiser. Our Third Party Event Toolkit is the best place to start, as it will walk you through the planning process step by step. The toolkit will help you decide on the type of event you want to host, how to create a budget, booking a venue, marketing your event, and more. If you have questions along the way, we have a Frequently Asked Questions guide for you to reference. Additionally, our Third Party Event Guidelines and Agreement will assist you when it comes down to logistics and details of fundraising for the Meso Foundation.

Crowdrise is one of the newest tools we have available for our fundraisers. No matter what type of fundraiser you decide to hold, Crowdrise enables you to create a personal event page to process registrations, track donations, update content and ask friends and family to support your cause. All of the above mentioned resources and further information about mesothelioma fundraising is available at curemeso.org/fundraiseformeso.

In addition to these resources and tools, our development team is here to help. Erica Ruble, the development assistant at the Meso Foundation, is available to assist you throughout the planning process. Erica has hosted nearly a dozen fundraising events in memory of her father, and she uses this experience and knowledge to serve as a resource for our community of fundraisers. Erica is available via email at [email protected] or phone at 703-879-3826.

Make 2016 your year to have an immediate impact on this devastating disease.  Be the catalyst for the ‘giving spirit’; infinitely touching lives of people in the meso community and beyond in ways you can never imagine.  Get started today!
